so a friend of mine recenetly got a new computer which is 64 bit. I want to help him by showing him 64 bit programs which run more afficiently but when I looked on google, download.com and other places, I couldn't find a website which specifically offers 64 bit programs.
Anyone know where I can find 64 bit programs? I know most mainstream programs such as skype and windows live have 64 bit versions of them but their not advertised as much as their 32 bit counter part.

The tendency of a computer’s processer to deal with information on RAM (random access memory) depends upon 32 bit and 64 bit version of Windows. 64 bit version can handle more RAM and apps than 32 bit.

Let’s understand it in a simple way. 64 bit version can deal with physical memory (RAM) above 4 GB and up to 128GB (yes, it exists!) while 32-bit version can address RAM up to 4 GB only. Therefore, if you have a 32 bit version of Windows installed on your computer then installing RAM above 4 GB doesn’t make sense.

The ability to handle large memory makes the 64 bit version more efficient while dealing with processes. Hence, it increases the overall performance of your PC. So 64 bit is more powerful in a nutshell.

Agree with the last poster.
Along with that, 64-bit Windows does less paging, which is the temporary writes to the hard drive to swap around virtual memory. This means a hard drive and file system in a better state for longer.

I recently found out from experience that you can run 32-bit programs on a 64-bit machine, although if the publisher offers a 64-bit counterpart, I'd go with that.

And adding on, if you can only find a 32 bit version of a program it will run just great and be efficient , so you don't have to worry over much about that. But running a 64 bit version on a 32 bit machine is not working.

yeah i know 32 bit programs run on a 64 bit machine, but i want to run 64 bit programs since their more afficient. In this day in age with more and more machines being 64, you would think more software manufactures will release a 64 bit versions of their stuff

No, because the 32 bit version works just fine and they only need to release one version. Cheaper that way, plus you don't lose what you don't have right?

I think, however, that if a publisher has gone to the trouble of releasing both 32 and 64-bit versions, the 64-bit one would probably work much better than the 32-bit one on a 64-bit machine, wouldn't it?

Yes, if you have a 64 bit machine and can get 64 bit programs get them.

put in the right thing into the right place, I say. So that no need of compatibility issues.
